Gael García Bernal
“Kyros in Gael’s life”
Ana Karen Ceja
Family, serenatas, tacos, mariachis, xoloitzcuintle
but above all Día de los muertos are all part our mexican culture. Considered
one of the Mexican actors that highlights the best part of our traditions and
culture in its maximum splendor Gael García Bernal exhorts us to see beyond a
simple mariachi or a simple tradition inviting us to go further.
There’s the example of his participation in Coco
which incorporates themes from the Mexican holiday Día de Los Muertos. Since
Gael García Bernal received the email that Pixar wanted him in a movie about
“Day of the Death” he loved the idea. The animated adventure follows Miguel, an
aspiring musician born into a family with a longtime ban on music. When Miguel
is transported to the Land of the Dead, he encounters Hector (Gael García
Bernal), a trickster who joins Miguel on his journey to unveil the truth behind
his family history and return home.

“Seize Your Moment” is a big phrase in Coco. It’s
one of Ernesto de la Cruz’s catch phrases. I find it interesting on how people
interpret it because at sight-seeing may be the ideal teaching, but Gael García
Bernal´s doesn’t think the same. I really love his interpretation,
because it offers insight into our future as well as our past. He said, “I
think it has been one of the most damaging aspects of western society, you
know, the notion of seizing the moment”. He thinks that this teaching made us
live the now as if there was no tomorrow. As if we’re not engaging with the
responsibility that there’s a future, and there are people that will come
after.
Personally, life is more than a rush; it’s more a
craft. Little by little, it’s built and seizing the moment sometimes makes us
fall into the trap that it is now or never. And there are moments that it is
now or never, but you know when that is. It’s not that there’s a rule that you
have to follow the same monotonous path. Kyros in Greek means “appropriate/opportune
moment” which is what Gael wanted us to catch from him. He just not only “seize
his moment” but he waited until the moment of his opportunity arrived, and it
does. It clearly does.
“Charolastra” friendship
María Andrea Ostos Cruz
Friends are the brothers we choose. Seventeen years ago, Alfonso Cuarón directed “y tu mamá también”, with the actors Gael García Bernal and Diego Luna, movie in which these two started a friendship which is still one of the most known in the Mexican cinematography industry.

Their fraternity’s name, charolastra, comes from the combination of two words, charol and astral, and it basically means that you can be a vague, but with values; you can do whatever you want, as long as you are not a fan of the America club, and do not get involved with your best friend’s girlfriend.
Is in this movie where this recognized friendship starts and since then, they have participated in 3 other movies and nowadays work together on the Canana films production, with which they support the Mexican independent cinematography industry, what makes them the dynamic Latin duo of Hollywood. With the help of each other during this movie, they made a brilliant future in their careers. Because what we can do well on our own, we can do it great with support.
Gael García
Bernal: Inspiration for a Cuarón, an incredible screenwriter.

In Mexico there
are great minds in the middle of the show that day after day they give us a
message with their work. Such is the case of Gael García Bernal, a great
recognized actor who has worked internationally. At 39, his work has rewarded
him with important prizes like a golden balloon for his program in "Mozart
in the Jungle".

Gael star in the
role of "Moises" that seeks to cross the border with a group of
immigrants, but before fulfilling its mission one of the American officials
discovers and begins a persecution.
